The Annual General Meeting of KUAA was held on 22nd August 2015 at the St Philips Church hall in Mt. Waverley followed by fellowship. It is with great pleasure that we announce the election of L D Priyantha Liyanage as the new President for the year 2015-2016 to steer KUAA for greater heights. He will be assisted by Jagath Kulasinghe as Vice President Sulali Pereira as his Secretary Anton Suwaris as Treasurer Champika Perera as assistant Treasurer and 10 committee members

KelaniNite 2013

18th May 2013 at Clayton Hall, Clayton

The KelaniNite the flagship event of the association was held for the fifth time at Clayton Hall. Coulourful stage was a product of combined effort made by the dedicated KUUA committee. This years high light was the performance by the popular Srilankan artists Saumya Liyanage and Ranil Mallawaarachchi. As usual Rasika Kulasinghas danicing group entertained the crowd. Music provided by welknown Melbourne music group Be Sharp. Event continued well over past midnight.

Australia Day Cricket Match

27th January 2013 at Liberty Avenue, Rowille

It was the third encounter between two alumni. No doubt that the well prepared Peradeniya cricketers outplayed Kelaniya in all departments. They won the Karl Gunasinghe trophy that was presented by Gunasinghe family. The next match “Over 40 years” also won by Peradeniya. How ever the Kelaniya ladies managed to win the ladies match to secure the lovely cake presented by Peradeniya Alumni. The Pappare music provided by the DJ made this event a truly entertaining cricket carnival.

Koththu Night

17th November 2012 at Dixon Hall, Clayton

K oththu Night is the annual event organised exclusively for KUAA families. The success of this event was evident as there was nearly 150 KUAA family members. Arguably this was the largest gathering of families from University of Kelaniya outside Sri Lanka. The occasion provided an ideal and best opportunity for all of them to meet, talk and build friendship.

T he KelaniNite 2012 on Saturday 12th May was a highly successful and enjoyable event patronised by a large gathering of members, associates and their families with a host of well wishers. The highlights of the day were, singing items by vocalists from the members and associates, dances by members and music by a well known music group Mistery, followed by a dancing session where everybody took to the floor till midnight. In the midst, all were treated to a scrumptious Sri Lankan dinner.

KUAA members participated at the Clean-up day Australia activitis at the Damper Creek in Mount Waverley for the fourth year in succession. The weather favours us and was ideal for the outing. The quantity of the garbage collection seems declining showing the increases awareness of the people around and other users.

Australia Day Cricket Match

26th January 2012 at Mulgrave Cricket Grounds, Wheelers Hill

The annual Cricket match betwen Kelaniya Alumni and Peradeniya Alumni was played at the Mulgrave Reserve. Both teams tried some serious stroke play and bowlers doing their bit and umpire equally serious and spectators enjoying the euphoria of the happy occation, making it a memorable one.

A hoppers night was held at the Brandon Park Community Centre. This was well attended by membters and their familiies. This event was organised essentially to meet the secon objective of KUAA, bring our members and their families to a collective group promoting social and cultural togetherness, renewing old ties, and developing endearing relationship

Ven. Naotunne Vijitha Thero, Chief Incumbent of the Dhammra sarana temple, Keysborough has been bestowed with the Chief sanganayake of Australia. KUAA organised the felicitation ceremony at the temple to commemorate the occation.

Clean-up Australia Day 2011

6th March 2011 Damper Creek Reserve, Mount Waverley

Volunteers gathered at our usual Clean Up Australia Day site, the Damper Creek in Mount Waverley from the morning on the perfect sunny day. We had the pleasure of working with many dedicated volunteers from other communities who turned up to volunteer their time for a good cause. As usual everyone enjoyed Sri Lankan food after the days hard work. Certificates were distributed to the participants at the successful Clean Up Australia Day.

Srilankan Food Fair

19th February 2011 at Dixon Hall, Clayton

Rectifying the shortcomings of the last Food fair, the 2011 Food fair was moved to a better venue with more space and modern facilities and conveniently located in Clayton. The fantastic weather was a blessing– this time the Melbourne weather was on our side. We saw a different trend in the patronage this year. There were increased number of non Sri Lankan visitors from the broader Australian community who enjoyed Sri Lankan foods.

Australia Day Cricket Match

26th January 2011 at Mulgrave Cricket Grounds, Wheelers Hill

Arguably this is the first event where two Sri Lankan university alumni got-together in Melbourne to celebrate a national day. Despite not so perfect weather the Cricket Match started with Peradeniya winning the toss and deciding to bat first. A ladies informal cricket match was played during the innings break to add some colour to the event. Kelaniya managed to pass the total score comfortably and was judged the winner.

Clean-up Australia Day 2010

7th March 2010 Damper Creek Reserve, Mount Waverley

KUAA participated in the Clean Up Day Australia this year establishing commitment to the activities of the broader Australian community. Despite the inclement weather about 30-35 volunteers participated in this outdoor activity. Local Member of Parliament Ms Maxine Morand, Minister for Children and Early Childhood Development and Women’s Affairs, who visited the site appreciated our contribution.

21st November 2009 at Edingburg Hall, Springvale

Sri Lankan Food Fair held at Edinburgh Hall, Springvale North on 23rd November 2009, was yet another highly successful event organised by KUAA . Enthusiastic visitors started arriving even before the scheduled opening hours. The hall was full to the brim and the production line was very active and strained to meet the demand. Food lovers from the local community as well as from the Sri Lankan community visited the fair to taste authentic and unique Sri Lankan food throughout the day

Annual Genaral Meeting 2009

This year’s Annual General Meeting was an AGM with a difference. Music by a DJ, a presentation by Westpac Bank on credit facilities, bring-along-a-plate dinner and a hired venue made the AGM an enjoyable night which otherwise would have being a just another meeting.
